Why I LOVE OM!!.... In addition to highest quality/purity assurance being top notch (cGMP AND GFSI certifications), so too are OM's sustainability practices!
At OM mushrooms, the commitment to sustainable practices is on a ✨year-round✨ basis because caring for our planet is all year through! Here are just a few of the ways we are doing our part to help protect Earth's 🌎 natural resources: How we grow:
No hazardous pesticides or other chemicals are used, ever!
All mushroom-growing processes are vertically integrated in San Diego, California.
Our controlled growing environment allows for optimizing conditions and harvest timelines, resulting in higher yields in shorter timeframes with less waste compared to outdoor farming methods.
Water Conservation
Each mushroom species grows in individual bioreactor units with filters that minimize moisture loss, eliminating irrigation and humidification compared to mushroom outdoor farms.
Our organic oats are harvested using a dryland farming season that uses only annual precipitation for irrigation, thus avoiding the use of pumps or drawing down from aquifers.
Energy Efficiency
Reduced reliance on electricity. Instead, we harness steam for energy production.
We mill our mushroom powders when electrical demands are lower, in the early morning, evenings, and nights.
Waste Reduction & Recycling
Traditional fruit body farms use various compost or substrate materials. At Om we use organic oats that the mushrooms digest entirely. This process minimizes waste, as the entire biomass becomes part of our final product.
We receive our organic oats in recyclable/reusable ag tote bags to prevent 50 lb grain bags from going to landfills.
Sustainable Agriculture
Our organic oat supplier employs reduced tillage strategies for seedbed preparation and weed control, avoiding soil compaction and fuel usage by tractors and farming implements.
We grow all of our mushrooms on organic oat substrate, which is a “green crop.”
Each time you shop OM Mushrooms from my page, you help to further these sustainability efforts! With gratitude, Om Mushroom Founders

A couple of 'the high integrity' mushroom companies have been the victims of some aggressive, negative marketing from some of their competitors. These competitors are generally new to jump on the mushroom bandwagon and are mostly importers of mushroom ingredients from China who use a variety of disinformation strategies in their marketing efforts. (Saying even that importing schrooms from China is NOT a bad thing). A couple of 'the good' companies have had to file some "cease and desist" orders against some of the "not so ethical" companies spreading the most blatant disinformation about the higher quality shroom co's and about products from companies who use the OM powders as ingredients in their products. There is a new band of 'the good' co's calling out for more collaboration in their segment of the health industry for less negative marketing tactics with information that is not only UNTRUE, but inaccurate information leading to creating this confusion for customers.
What Are Mushroom Supplements?
Most mushroom supplements fall into two main categories: dried and milled whole food mushroom powder and mushroom extracts. Whole food mushroom powder contains all the nutrients and bioactive compounds of the mushroom’s full cycle, including the mycelium and fruiting bodies. Extracts typically contain a standardized dosage or guaranteed minimum dosage of one of the mushroom’s bioactive compounds such as beta glucan polysaccharides. After the desired component is extracted from the mushroom in hot water or alcohol, it may be packaged in liquid form or dried and sold as an extract powder. Mushroom supplements are available in several forms for easy inclusion into your daily wellness routine:
Mushroom powder: usually packaged in resealable pouches or plastic canisters. Loose powder blends are taken by mixing a scoop into beverages or by incorporating them into your cooking.
Mushroom capsules: Mushroom powder blends are also available in capsule form for ease and convenience.
Mushroom tinctures: Liquid extracts are usually packaged in dropper bottles that make adding drops to a beverage, broth, or soup easy.
Ready-to-use mushroom products: Mushroom powder blends and extracts are combined with other ingredients in flavorful, ready-to-use beverage and broth mixes that are reconstituted with water.
Regardless of the form, it is important to ensure that your mushroom supplement is made with high-quality, organic mushrooms grown under strict standards for safety and purity. Look for a brand that controls the cultivation and manufacturing process from start to finish and submits its products for third-party analyses and certifications from accredited labs and licensed certification agencies, respectively. With hot-water-extracted mushroom products that have been spray-dried, it is important to know if the product contains any carrierssuch as maltodextrin that were used in the spray-drying process. Some manufacturers neglect to list processing aids on their productlabels. The content of carrier compoundscan make up as much as 40% of the extracted and spray dried mushroom powder product, Mushrooms that have been extracted with solvents such as methanol and ethanol may also contain residual solvent material if the solvent recovery process was not thorough.
